EXPLORATIONS FOR GUESTS AT THE CASTINE INNThe fifteen miles that separate Castine from Route 1, the main tourist artery along the coast, shield the town from the frenzy that many coastal towns experience during the summer. At the same time, its central location in the Penobscot Bay area makes Castine a perfect base for exploring a widely diverse section of the Maine coast. Within a 2-hour drive in either direction, you can hike, bike, kayak, shop, browse through museums, search out antiques, visit art galleries and studios, tour historic homes, stroll through gardens and nurseries, not to mention experience some of the most spectacular scenery Maine has to offer. We want you to enjoy this part of Maine as much as we do and hope that our suggestions will add interest and adventure to this trip and perhaps entice you to return to revisit favorite places or discover new ones. |
